Home Energy Inspection

Your Operating Costs

Most Homebuyers purchase a home without first understanding what it costs to operate it. Most Americans spend $2,200 a year on utilities including heating and cooling costs. Many can reduce their utility bills by 20% to 30%—sizeable savings— from energy improvements.

The Home Energy Inspection will give you a quick understanding of:

  • How much this home will cost you to operate;
  • Where energy (and therefore money) is being wasted in this home; and
  • What can be done to save energy and increase comfort after you move in.

Making Energy Home Improvements

The benefits from making energy improvements include saving on your utility bills, increasing the comfort of your home, and reducing your use of natural resources. In the example report shown here, this home will cost a new homeowner $5,367 per year to operate. If the new homeowner makes the recommended energy improvements after they move in, they could expect to save $2,315 every year.

Keep in mind that these estimates and recommendations will be based on the energy calculations and cost databases administered by the U.S. Department of Energy and its Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

While I’m Here

While I’m here conducting your home inspection, hire me to perform a Home
Energy Inspection. I will collect about 40 data points related to energy. I then use an advanced energy calculator developed by the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors to:

  • Estimate the home’s yearly energy usage;
  • Pinpoint potential energy inefficiencies;
  • Develop recommendations for energy improvements; and
  • Determine potential energy savings.

Your online report will provide information about the efficiency of major systems in the home, and recommendations for improvements that can help reduce your energy bills while making your new home more comfortable.
